Description
Rhinoceros are simply incredible animals. They can weigh between 500kg to 2,500 kg and between 2.5 metres to 4 metres long! They can run around 55 kilometres per hour so they’re not slow by any means. There are 5 different species of rhinos with the Black and the White rhino living in Africa, the Sumatran, Javan and Indian (or greater on-horned) rhinos living in the tropical forests and swamps of Asia.
The name rhinoceros means ‘nose horn’ and they sure do have some giant horns! Sadly poachers take the rhino horns and sell them because they believe it will cure illnesses but in actual fact the horn is only made of keratin like your fingernails. So they don’t have any medicinal properties at all. So the rhinos get killed for nothing.
